I have what looks like a large lump I guess, my shoulders pull foreward, and if i rub my neck, my lower neck, its always tense, and feels like there is a knot or lump (not like a cancer lump, but like the top of my spine pushes out). Is this bad posture? I looked scoliosis, and thats a curve that goes from side to side.
If i pull my shoulders as far back as they go, and practically stick my chest out, it seems gone. I’m concerned, is this something I need to see a doctor about? or is this bad posture?
Is there some sort of brace that helps pull the shoulders back and improve posture?

There is absolutely no way an RN can make a diagnosis as to what is going on with you. There are a multitude of speculations that we could make. Could be kyphosis, scoliosis, arthritis, injury, etc. You would need to consult with a physician. Sorry. And besides, your symptoms are not real clear.
it sounds like scoliosis.
see ur doctor to be sure.
diagnosis is easy, u stand with ur legs straight and together and u bend forward.
someone behind u looks at ur back for unequalness.
other signs, depending on the degree of curvature, is standing upright and looking at ur self sideways in the mirror, both left and right.
see if they look similar or slightly curved on 1 side.
other signs include what is known as a rib hump and unequal shoulder height on 1 side.
treatment depends on several factors.
some as easy as nothing but monitoring it for progressive worsening with yearly x-rays to wearing a brace to prevent worsening to surgery.
only ur doctor can decide.
surgery includes the insertion of metal rods along ur back (harrington rods). these can prevent u from ever bending ur back again. u would need to bend at the waist and u would have a scar.
a new procedure not being done by a lot of doctors yet
is the eclipse method. it is done laprascopically (with laprascopes for minimal scarring) and involves attaching metal rods to certain areas of ur spine. this would allow some bending of the back. this method can only be done on certain curvatures.
the best thing to do is see a doctor about it now.
other abnormal curvatures of the spine include kyphosis (abnormal forward curvature of the cervical spine) and lordosis (abnormal forward curvature of the lumbar spine).
the spinal column consists of the upper cervical vertebraes (8), middle thoracic (12) vertebraes, and lower lumbar (5) vertebraes.
personally, my 2 older sister had scoliosis. one had surgery, insertion of harrington rods and can no longer bend her back. the other got by with just wearing a brace for awhile and now she’s normal.
good luck to u.
