My two year old son had surgery on March 10, 2007 he had a tooth extraction. He will have to have seven more teeth taken out on a surgery on May 4, 2007. The dentist prescribed an antibotic for him so that more teeth do not become infected.
I had the pharmacy flavor the medicine (bubble gum) but he still won’t take it. Please help!!
I want to advice nursing mothers to always brush your baby or toddlers teeth after nursing (every time) so this does not happen to you.

- What are the steps to becoming a “nurse anesthetist’?
different things work for different kids. I resorted to bribing. I know it can be frustrating, but if you can get them to take it when they’re not upset, it’s easier. Sometimes they forget the next time and take it without a problem. BY bribing, I mean, not turning on TV till you take this, or no outside till you take your medicine, no juice till you take your medicine. I’ll give you a snack after medicine. Get the picture! good luck, I love 2 year old!
When my daughter was 2 she had to take a prophylactic antibiotic everyday. And she hated bubblegum flavor, which baffled me. I thought every kid liked it. But sometimes you just have to work with them. I would have the medicine in one hand, and her favorite juice in the other. It worked for bribery, and also helped her get the medicine taste out of her mouth. After awhile, she accepted that it was necessary for her to do this everyday. Kids adjust well to routine. She didn’t always enjoy it but understood it was part of our day. Good luck.
grab the little bugger and have at it!!fast quick and all the screaming and pleading and theatrics are over! after all yu are the Mommy!!!
Put the meds in your childs juice. Thats they only way my daughter take anything.
Ever heard the song “just a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down?”
(brush his teeth after the sugar part!!!!!)
I feel so sorry for both of you!! Try bribery and rewards!
Maybe the old trick will work where you put the medicine in his mouth and blow in his face . I used this on my babies. It works pretty well although sometimes they choke if they are crying or protesting too much. Also use a dropper type dispenser and give it a squert! I asume putting it in food or drink didn”t work? GOOD LUCK!!
duct tape
I am not a mom, but here’s an idea anyways.
If he only has to take it once a day, reward him with a treat after he takes his medicine. Maybe a Dum-Dums sucker or a fun size Skittles or M&M’s. Then he will be more excited to take it! If he takes it several times each day, let him have a treat that isn’t edible, like a cool sticker or cheap things like plastic rings and bouncy balls.
(Tip: tell him to plug his nose, because when you do this you cannot taste anything.)
I hope this helps!
Is there a drink that he likes that you can mix it into? Whatever you do DON’T let him see you doing it!!
