He may actually be reinfecting himself.
When someone itches their anus, even through underpants, eggs can collect under the nails.
This can also happen when wiping after a bowel movement.
If his hands are not wash with soap thoroughly, then puts his fingers in his mouth when eating etc, then the eggs re-enter the body. Hatching in the intestines all over again.
Make sure his hands are kept clean. especially when treating the worms AND after having a poo.
Cook ALL MEAT really well.
Don’t let him play with animals then not wash his hands. The same with EVERYONE in the family.
Repeat the medication again and keep everyone’s hands clean. And nails short, which makes it harder to get eggs under and easier to keep clean.
The drugs mentioned do work quite well to eliminate all sorts of parasites from the body. However, they will not keep your son from being reinfected. That is usually the trouble with children of that age. In order for your son to become infected, he must ingest the worm eggs somehow. I suggest you clip his nails very short to start with, and stress that he must keep his hands away from his mouth. Before he eats, you need to wash his hands thoroughly and use a nail brush underneath his nails. At night, worms exit the body to lay eggs in the skin, and the movement will make him itch. He will scratch in his sleep, and then transfer them to his mouth if he eats before he washes. At night you can help avoid this by having him sleep in short pants or shorts, and covering his hands with socks if you need to. All of his playthings need to be washed and santized as well. Usually this is easily done with plain soap and a bit of bleach in the water. Every member of the family should also be treated, and you all need to be careful to wash before you prepare food or eat. Food that will be eaten raw also needs to be carefully washed first as well. If you keep a pet, the pet may also be the source, and needs to be treated by a veterinarian to eliminate them. You need to check the yard where your child plays for animal feces as well, and clean it out. But most important is just the simpliest thing, wash hands and food before you eat. If you do not eat the eggs and you take the medicine, you will get rid of them and keep them away.
